Documentation 6: Tokyo Christmas Illumination Circus

Christmas is not a Japanese national holiday, but Japanese people celebrate Christmas mostly with shopping sprees and visiting the famous Christmas illuminations.

Overview 1 of 2

Christmas illuminations in Tokyo and other big cities in Japan attract millions of people each year, even Christmas is not a national holiday. Usually Christmas in Japan is a big event for couples and can be compared to Valentine’s Day.
Spending Christmas evening alone is the most degrading and embarrassing thing in the world for a young person in Japan, so sometimes people couple up just for Christmas Eve, watch the Christmas illuminations, go for dinner, exchange presents and end up in Love Hotels.
