D1scussion

The discussion group for professional users of Nikon's D-SLR cameras

Nikon introduced its first affordable and professional D-SLR - the Nikon D1 - in 1999. As an early adopter I missed international support and founded D1scussion in the same year. Today more than 1700 (mostly) professional photographers from around the world are members of the mailing list D1scussion.

To become a member of D1scussion and to access the archives, you have to subscribe.

FAQ and List Policy of D1scussion

Index

List Policy: Stay on topic and avoid Off Topic posts.

The topic of D1scussion are Nikon D-SLR cameras and all directly related topics as software, hardware, lenses, flashes and accessoires. Comparing other brands with Nikon D-SLRs is permitted as long as there is any direct relation to Nikon D-SLR cameras.

Off Topic posts detoriate the usefulness and collected expertise of this list, so please avoid all Off Topic posts. In case you think an Off Topic mail is necessary or useful for the list, consult in doubt first with the list owner or post it by inserting an additional "OT" (for Off Topic) in front of the subject line.

List Policy: Introduce yourself in your very first post to the list.

Your first post to the list should include a short introduction about yourself and your interest and/or involvement with Nikon D-SLR cameras and photography. If you don't introduce yourself, all of your posts will be moderated. After sending your first post, there will be a short lag before you will see your message on the list. Following this initial message, you will be free to post without any moderation.

List Policy: Don't abuse this list.

Don't use this mailing list for flames (hostile messages directed at another individual) or other personal attacks. If you have a problem with another member, please contact the list moderator directly and take the issue off the list. Healthy discussion and debate is welcomed; personal attacks are not.

Distribution of spam, company advertisements, chain letters, test emails, virus warnings or jokes is not permitted and can lead to your immediate unsubscription.

No sales: This list is advertisement free and only founded to exchange information between list members. Information can be invaluable, so please don't try to make any additional money with this list by trying to sell anything, private or commercial, to list members.

Any email that could be construed as spam or unsolicited advertising will result in the member being immediately unsubscribed.

List Policy: Don't send HTML mails or attachments to the list.

If you normally send out HTML (or Rich Text Mails, ie. the colorful ones) mail, please change your setting for the list address to PLAIN TEXT only, as this list will reject all HTML mails and attachments. To participate please use the lowest common denominator: PLAIN TEXT.

Check this site for helpful tips on How to change your email client to plain text.

List Policy: Please use a useful subject line in your posts.

A common mistake is to forget or ignore the subject field while writing an email, even though the first thing people read is the subject line. Make sure you write a short summary of what the post is about. A useful subject line such as "Help needed to switch Nikon D1x to continous autofocus" is more likely to get a response than just "Help". A blank subject line will be rejected by the list server. Please do not change the subject line if you are continuing the same discussion, unless the thread has moved to a new topic. Referencing the old subject, eg. "New Nikon D-SLR (was: Nikon Capture will not open NEF file)", will remind list members your message continues an earlier discussion.

List Policy: Don't quote complete messages.

If you are replying to a list mail, please don't quote the complete mail of the original poster. Quote only the relevant sentence or paragraph in order to understand your reply in the right context starting with the > sign like in this example:

> The relevant part should stay to seamlessly continue the discussion

You are right, and the redundant part should be removed for a good flow of the discussion.

Please note that every post contains a footer with your personal unsubscribe information. If you forget to strip this part (good email clients strip it automatically) and quote your personal unsubscribe information to the list, it gets interpreted as unsubscribe request and you get immediately unsubscribed.

Is there an archive of older posts available?
